Welcome

Get the Steel Wound Sound!

Three voices, many strings, old and new acoustic alt-folk jazzy country blues.

Original story songs and semi-obscure cover tunes.

Welcome!

Another season upon us

It's been a quiet winter.

Kerry got a total knee replacement, so he hasn't been bounding about as much as usual, but we've been working away on some new material and experimenting with additional instrumentation.  Lotsa fun!

Applications are out and some gigs confirmed, and we're looking forward to another year of spreading the Steel Wound Sound.

We'll be updating the schedule on the Events page with places, dates and times as we go along.

Hope to see you out again!

Merry Happy Jolly

Today is the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, and we celebrate the return of the light.  Happy Solstice to all our friends and fans around the globe.

Soon the bells will be ringing Merry Christmas.  There is a great body of traditional and new music to celebrate the season.  Find people to sing with!

Joyeux Noël, Mele Kalikimaka!  Felice Navidad, Prospero Anno y Felicidad!  (I like that 'y Felicidad')  Quot estis in convivio!

Hug your loved ones, show compassion, practice forbearance, and try to understand those we haven't learned to love yet.

Light a candle, plant a tree, share the earth, sing together!

Peace.

Walking Wounded

Hi Folks.
We've been quiet for a little while, and we probably won't be playing out much in the next few weeks, because Kerry has gone and got himself an upgrade on his knee.  Watch for the Walking Wounded tour in the new year.   Of course it'd be hard not to celebrate at least a little during the holidays.

It's too early to talk about Christmas shopping, so consider this a non-seasonal reminder to check out the Steel Wound Store.
We have CDs and the coveted "Get the Steel Wound Sound" tee shirts in the Store, and you can find digital downloads in the Music tab.  No waiting.

Steel Wound on the radio--live Links

We have been getting good support on Vancouver Co-op Radio (CFRO 100.5 FM).  Duke Lang has played our tunes several times now on his program Better Days (Thursdays 10:00-12:00PM).  The link is www.coopradio.org/station/archives/48  for programs we're on.  Duke likes train songs, and Freight Train has figured large.

This weekend, Paul Norton is planning on playing Steel Wound on his show, What the Folk (Sunday 4:00-5:30PM).  Tune in to CFRO 100.5 FM in the listening area, or outside the lower mainland, tune in on the internet: http://www.coopradio.org/content/what-folk and hit the 'listen now' button.  We'll post link to the archive file after the show.

We also had a feature interview on Richard Sevigny's Live in the Shuswap show on Voice of the Shuswap (CKVS 93.7 FM, http://voiceoftheshuswap.ca/).  It's been repeated a couple of times, and we'll update the link when the show is archived.

And we were played in the 'Hot New Music' set of PT's Roadhouse #189 Sept 3 2014  ( www.ptsroadhouse.com ).  We'll have to work on Paul to put us on again.

There's a couple more in the works, and we'll keep you updated as things unfold.  Live links on our Links page, along with links to other good folks we've worked with.

Thanks for the support!

The Starlight Lounge was hopping!

Well friends & neighbours, our Seedy Release Party was a big success: sold-out full house, lots of happy people, and a full dance floor!  We never said we were a dance band, but people danced anyway.  Go figure.

Thanks Sheron, Lorna and Dianne for the decorations, watching the snack table and taking lots of pictures & video.
Thanks Howard and Alice for tending the door and the merch table.
Thanks to the folks at the Elks club, who patiently watched a bunch of crazies turn their Lodge into a slightly-worn old-time piano lounge.
Thanks Rick at 29th Street Music School for the lights--didn't they make those mirror balls look fabulous!

And especially, thank you to all you good people who came out to help us celebrate our little project.  We really appreciate your support.  Hope you all had as much fun as we did.

Keep spreading the Steel Wound Sound!
