Get the Steel Wound Sound!

Three voices, many strings, old and new acoustic alt-folk jazzy country blues.

Original story songs and semi-obscure cover tunes.

Not another one!

Wouldn't you know?  Kerry tore his other knee and ended up laid up half the spring.  Gotta learn, that boy.

We're back at it again and lining up shows for the summer season.

Keep an eye on the Events page for upcoming shows.

We'd love to see you there!

A bolt out of the blue for a shot in the arm

Well, friends and neighbours, sometimes things happen unexpectedly that give you a real boost.

I opened my emails one morning this week to see a message from Kevin Quain.  Those of you who have been to Steel Wound shows will know that Kevin Quain wrote the great song 'Catch You in the Rye', and he was kind enough to grant us permission to record it on our CD 'Last Dance at the Starlight Lounge'.

Here's what he wrote this week:

"I'm here at Mad Bastard headquarters in Toronto and I have iTunes on shuffle.  Steel Wound just came on, and I wanted to let you know it sounds great; lots of heart & soul!
"I think it was All New Buddha's Blues that came up on shuffle, but I gave the rest of the record a good listen and really liked how pure and simple the production and arrangements are.

Hope you're well,

At the risk of being immodest, I had to share that one!

Thank you Kevin Quain for the kind words of encouragement.  Thanks to Andrew and Zachari Smith at Lake Studios for their fine production work to capture the Steel Wound Sound...check our Music page for the tunes.

And thank you to all of you who come out to shows to support live music!

The Voice Live Fundraising Gala

Well, now, that was just a lot of fun.

We would like to thank all the organisers and volunteers who worked to put on The Voice Live fundraising Gala for Voice of the Shuswap Community Radio in Salmon  Arm.  And thanks especially to the enthusiastic audience who came out to make the event such a success.

The whole show was taped and will be broadcast on Voice of the Shuswap.  When we find out when it's on, we'll keep you posted.

We've encouraged people many times before to Support Live Music.    And we'll add Support Community Radio, presented by a whole lot of people who Support Local Music!

Looking for Tunes?

Here's a shout out to Dieter at Spinner Sound Centre on 30th Avenue in downtown Vernon.  He is now selling music by local artists in the store, along with some of the best-sounding hi-fi and home theatre systems you can find.

Look for our CD, "Last Dance at the Starlight Lounge" there, along with releases from some of your other local favourite artists.  Thanks, Dieter.

Our CD "Last Dance at the Starlight Lounge" is climbing the campus and community radio charts!  Last week we were #17 in the Top 30 (#18 the week before) on Kamloops CFBX - The X - and #6 in the Top 10 Roots specialty chart.  Thanks for the support!

Check out the Hurtin' for Real show, 8:00am Friday and Monday, and The Top 30 Show, noon Saturday, on CFBX,  FM 92.5 in the listening area , Cable 106.1, or online with the link: http://thexaudio.tru.ca:8002/listen.pls

Also, remember to check Duke Lang's Better Days on Vancouver Co-op Radio (CFRO 100.5 FM), 7:00-9:00am Saturdays for lots of old-time, good-time tunes.

Elvis has left the building....

We're sad to announce that Keith Hustler is leaving Steel Wound.  It's been fun working and playing with Keith over the last few years, but he has reached a point where he is just getting too busy in his guitar building and repair shop.  We thank him for all his input, and we wish him well in his new ventures.

We are happy to announce that we are now working with a new guitar player, Paul Fisher.  Paul has many years playing with country and rockabilly bands, and we know he'll add some hot new licks to the Steel Wound Sound.  Paul's first gig with us will be Lumby Days on Sunday the 14th.  Check it out if you are in town!

Spring has Sprung

Spring is upon us, the birds are chirping, the bees are buzzing.
Looking forward to some new tunes, new friends and lots of good times.

We got a nice review of our CD Last Dance at the Starlight Lounge in the March/April 2015 issue of BC Musician Magazine (#109). Check it out at your local pick up location!
